Huge success for Barents Summer Games
This weekend one of the largest people-to-people projects in the Barents Regione was arranged in Oulu. The Barents Summer Games gathered almost 1000 athletes in 14 sports. And in april next year Murmansk is ready to host the Barents Winter Games 2014.
As Russia and Western Europe are going thorugh difficult times, there was no sign of political disputes as athletes from the four Barents countries Russia, Norway, Finland, Sweden, gathered in Oulu. Here the only focus was friendly competitions.
- Thank you Oulu for the best games ever, the front page of the Barents Times reads. It was printed during the night and ready on the breakfast tables of all athletes on Sunday morning.
Oulu hosted competitions spanning over 14 different sports venues all over the city. It contributed in making an incredible atmosphere in Oulu this weekend.

Now the next host of the Barents Games will be the winter games in Murmansk in the first weekend of April 2016.
In her welcoming speach for the next games head of Murmansk Sports Comittee, Svetlana Neumova said that it will be challenging to copy the great job of the organizers in Oulu, but they welcomed all athletes to Murmansk in April and would put all efforts in making the same atmosphere during the winter games next year,
