Barents Secretariat signs with Murmanshelf

The Norwegian Barents Secretariat last week signed membership with Murmanshelf, The association of suppliers for oil- and gas industry in North-West Russia.

The agreement was sign by Murmanshelf Deputy General Dmitry Maslow and adviser at The Norwegian Barents Secretariat Harald Sørensen.

The Norwegian Barents Secretariat is already a member of the Norwegian sister organization Petro Arctic. Mr. Sørensen says that the membership is important for cooperation on oil- and gas issues in the region.

- The membership gives us access to important information regarding economic development in the Barents Region. It is also important for marine logistic development, especially through the EU StratMos Project “Northern Maritime Corridor.

The Murmanshelf association consists of 195 companies and does information service for members and consulting and educational services. It was established in 2005 by the regional administration in Murmansk in cooperation with Norwegian energy company Statoil.
