Cooperation between indigenous peoples of Norway and Russia
A delegation of representatives from Russian indigenous organizations and The State Polar Academy will visit Tromsø during the Arctic Frontiers Conference 19 – 22 January 2014, to meet with representatives of Sami organizations including the Sami Parliament of Norway, the Sami Council, the Working Group of Indigenous Peoples in the Euro‐Arctic Council as well as the Centre for Sami Studies at UiT. The purpose of the visit it to strengthen the capacity of indigenous peoples’ organizations of the Russian North within the new political environment in the Russian Federation. Strengthening the links between the Russian indigenous movement and the Sami Parliament of Norway. Organizing a strong cooperation between organizations of indigenous peoples and academic institutions involved in research, education and knowledge production on governance and indigenous issues in the Arctic.
