The Northern Flowers

Musicians from Russia, Germany and Norway set off for a fascinating journey giving chamber music concerts en route.

Musikk i Finnmark in association with St.Petersburg Alliance NORTHERN FLOWERS launched a joint project titled Northern Flowers Tour

The itinerary of the musical journey goes through North-West Russia and Northern Norway. The musicians will exclusively use land transport thus backing the idea of environmental security in Northern Regions.

All in all there will be 10 concerts given under the project both for adults and children. The programme includes music to every taste: a 1938 clarinet-violin-piano trio Contrasts by Béla Bartók, 7 Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok composed by Shostakovich, a one-movement orchestral piece Bolero by Maurice Ravel, The Shepherd on the Rock by Franz Schubert, and Schumann Piano Quartet.

The first concert was arranged in St.Petersburg on occasion of Constitution Day in Norway on 17th May, afterwards musicians headed for Novgorod, Petrozavodsk and Kondopoga.

On 23d of May they will perform in Murmansk Philharmonic Hall at 17.00.

On 24th of May musicians will perform in Nickel and will set off for Norway to give concerts in Kirkenes, Vadsø, Tana and Alta, where the final concert takes place (28th of May).

The project was funded by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat under BarentsKult program.
