The Norwegian language along with Norway-related activities in Murmansk are extremely popular. The recent opening of the Norwegian club is yet another proof.

Wednesday evening about 50 people came to the official opening of the Norwegian Club. All of different occupations: a driver, a pensioner, professor and a student but sharing the same interest. Everyone could speak Norwegian and had a lot to say about their ties with neighbouring country.

The Norwegian Club is a platform for regular meetings of Norwegians and Russians. Meetings are devoted to different topics on both countries and relations between them. All discussion are made in Norwegian, flavoured with coffee and Norwegian waffles.

Apart from that, the Club will have national celebrations, film viewing, book exchange, involvement in all Norwegian activities in Murmansk and much more.

As the number of Norwegians coming to Murmansk is constantly growing, the club members have a golden opportunity to invite interesting people from Norway: from businessmen to famous artists.

The opening arose a big interest, Murmansk office of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat still gets numerous calls from people asking how to become a member of the Norwegian Club.

The idea to have Norwegian Club in Murmansk was proposed by Russian employees of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat in Murmansk. The initiative got funding from the main office and is also supported by the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Murmansk.

The membership in the Club is free of charge and has no age restriction.
